As a "dystopic future history" it follows in the tradition established by its major forebears: Jack London's The Iron Heel and Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here.  Dr. Jonas' book, based on what the Republican Christian Right has already told us they will do as they gather more and more power, may, sadly, well prove to be correct.  That is unless the U.S. people wake up to what is happening all around them and do something about it before it is too late.

In The New Americanism (1992), Dr. Jonas presents his proposal for that “new vision and mission” for the Democratic Party that so many, for so many years, have been urging it to find, and that still eludes it, even as the 2008 Presidential campaign is well underway.  He finds them, needed with increasing urgency as the Georgites drive our nation towards frank theocratic fascism with increasing speed and determination, in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
